Dr. Daniel Haag

Director, Stuttgart
What was your route into the ESG Team at Strategy&?
Sustainability has always been an important topic for me, starting from my studies and doctoral research, during which I focused on sustainable land use practices in Patagonia and the Amazon region, among other topics. With the growing importance of ESG in my core industries of transportation & logistics and industrial production, I began to delve more deeply into areas such as decarbonization of production, electrification of logistics, circularity, and their implications for business models.

What do you most value about working in the ESG Team?
For me, the transformation towards sustainability is one of our greatest challenges for the future, bringing significant challenges for companies, entire organizations, and their leadership – accompanied by a high degree of complexity, conflicting objectives, and resistance. My interest in tackling these complex issues led me into consulting and has kept me there – now, I find it exciting to apply this expertise, together with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, to the future-focused topic of sustainability.

What has been your best moment (so far) in the ESG Team?
There are many great moments – what moves me the most is when we find an approach to crack a tough nut after intense and challenging discussions within the team and with our clients, such as developing a compelling roadmap for decarbonization. The joy of fulfilling collaboration combines with achieving results that propel the company forward and have a positive impact on our natural surroundings and environment.
